Ukrainian Literature and Culture in the Early Modern Period

with Tetiana Kalytenko (Kyjiw/Frankfurt O.) und Olena Peleshenko (Kyjiw/Frankfurt O.)

Programm

Europa-Universität Viadrina, AM 204, Logenstraße 4, 15230 Frankfurt (O.)

Ukrainian literature and culture of the early modern period is a field of research on which there has been very little exchange internationally. Its beginnings date back to the founding of the Kievan state and the conversion of Rus’ to Christianity. The workshop takes a look at various activities in literature, linguistic diversity, and cultural pluralism in intellectual life in Rus’ Ukraine from the eleventh century to the end of the eighteenth century.

After a brief general overview, the two speakers will address one aspect at a time in greater depth in their presentations:

Tetiana Kalytenko: “Kyiv-Pechersk Patericon as a Military Text.”
Olena Peleshenko: “Medieval Utopias and Apocryphal Journeys to the Earthly Paradise in Ukrainian Manuscripts of 12th – 18th century”.

The workshop will be held in English.
Participation via Zoom is also possible. Please dial in at:
